Activities – Horse Riding @ Sibaya – Sodwana Bay

What animal lover does not love Horse Riding, especially on the beach or take a game ride? How romantic wont that be to ride on a horse along the shore side or through a magical forest. Of course this is something both partners will have to be  in consensus with. Although this particular activity is not widely proclaimed like other sports such as Scuba Diving and Snorkeling there are a hand full of small businesses that do offer game and beach tours via Horse Back riding. Although we only recently found out about this activity – so have not tried it out ourselves yet. It sounds like it could be a wonderful experience. Research says that some of these businesses who offer these tours will pair you up with a horse according to what experience you have in Horse Back riding. Meaning if you never road a horse before they will most likely pair you up with a very gentle and possibly slower horse. While more experienced riders will be able to ride not such  gentle horses or more experienced “Spunky” horses. Activities – Zulu Croc (Hluhluwe) @ Sibaya – Sodwana Bay

Calling all Reptile and Zulu enthusiasts. Here is a park approximately 1h16min (according to google) that will give you an unforgettable exciting educational experience about – Snakes, Crocs and other reptiles, plus whats more is you get to learn more about the native tribe of KwaZulu-Natal – the Zulu Nation. Learn more about the Zulu Nations History and what they mean and are as a tribe. Shows of crocs, snakes and Zulu dancing are offered to groups of 10 people or more. The earliest show starts at 10:00 in the morning and the last show will begin the latest 14:00 in the afternoon daily (Monday – Saturday). Whats more is that there is a great restaurant on the premises to grab a late breakfast or a great lunch after or during your tour of the park. Activities – Kite Surfing @ Sibaya – Sodwana Bay

Although we have never tried this sport before, research tells us that Sodwana Bay is very popular for Kite Surfing, it has great winds for Kite Surfing all year round and from our experience as a spectator of this beautiful reef/dune there are a lot of big waves constantly coming in. There is also a Kite Surfing festival that takes place in October and November. It is claimed that Sodwana Bay is the best Kite Surfing spot in the country (South Africa) due to the best wind conditions. So if you have never been to Sodwana Bay or have never tested out Sodwana’s great waves and winds, get down their to test it out and if you have tested out Kite Surfing in Sodwana Bay, drop us an email telling us about how your experience was and if you would  recommend this spot as a good kite Surfing spot? Activity – Snorkeling @ Sibaya – Sodwana Bay

Experience the great reefs in Sodwana Bay. We have had first hand experience in snorkeling on the rocky reefs of Sodwana Bay. Although on first glimpse of swimming around in rock pools it will seem as if there are absolutely no fish in the water. This is not true,  although the water is a beautiful deep dark blue on the surface on a calm weathered day you will find that the water is quite clear underneath the surface, with plenty of fish, some fish are more common than others , but rest assured when swimming under the water you will think you are been transported to another world. If you are lucky you might catch a few eels hiding in rock crevices or coral, or even small manta rays, 0r like us we were lucky enough to find a rare spotting of a Marbled Electric Ray (Check out the Video below:) This was by far my favorite siting of all the times we have been to Sodwana Bay. But beware of getting to close to it, they can pack a nasty electrical punch if feeling threatened. Although we didn’t know this the moment we saw it. Well apparently it didn’t feel too threatened by us, cause it didn’t try attacking us. Activities – Ocean Safaris @ Sibaya – Sodwana Bay

Ocean Safaris are not very popular in Sodwana Bay in terms advertising and promoting. But it is available, this sport or Activity is accommodating for both Scuba Divers and also Snorkelers. Although Scuba Ocean Safaris are much easier to come by than Snorkeling ocean Safaris, there are a few groups who offer both types of Ocean Safaris.  Some will take you out on a boat ride a little further from the shoreline, others might keep you closer to the reefs. So for those who cannot Scuba Dive, there is still hope of seeing exotic sea life without diving to the depths. Activities – Spear Fishing @ Sibaya – Sodwana Bay

With the Zululand spots such as Cape Vidal and Sodwana Bay having all year round diving conditions and lots of big gamefish action, to wreck diving where large dagga salmon and big ignoblis kingfish, thrilling action is provided for everyone. The world record black marlin was also shot in this area.  Influenced by the warm Agulhas and Mozambique currents which flow southwards down this section of the coast, the waters are home to a rich diversity of fish life.  On any dive spearfishermen can expect to encounter large gamefish along with the many different types of reef fish found here – pelagic fish, black and striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, world record size kawakawa, skipjack tuna, king mackerel, queenfish, kingfish, dorado and wahoo. Kwazulu Natal enjoys a sub-tropical climate with mild winters and hot steamy summers. Summer water temperatures are around 24°C and the use of a 3mm wetsuit is more than adequate. For the winter months May-August you need a 5mm wetsuit with sea temperatures as low as 18°C.  The south coast stretches from Durban southwards to Port Edward, a distance of 160km. With lots of rivers on this section of coast, the rainy months make the inshore conditions mostly undiveable.  The south coast is characterized by short beaches bounded by rocky headlands.  The annual sardine run takes place along this section of coast during winter. Shoals of sardines move up from the south eastern cape coast accompanied by large game fish. This is an exciting time for divers with big game fish and even bigger sharks encountered right on the back line.
