Last November Cape Town traffic officer Nizaam Alexander returned fire after being shot at point blank range during a routine patrol. The Western Cape Government released footage of the incident that happened on the N2 near Borcherd’s Quarry in Cape Town.

Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security JP Smith, during an interview on the new Roadblock Unit, reveals exclusively to News24 Live that a suspect has just been arrested. Watch.

The incident, which was captured on the officer’s vehicle’s dashboard camera, shows the officer returning fire and chasing after the perpetrator.

Unable to apprehend the suspect, Alexander returns to his duties before seeking medical attention. According to Smith, officer Alexander was shot through the shoulder but fortunately the wound didn’t prove fatal.
