A 44-year-old Swiss woman has reportedly died after being pulled from the water in Dwejra Bay off the island of Gozo, Malta, on the morning of Saturday, 11 May.
Malta’s police said that they were called to the site at around 10.20am, where the diver had been brought to shore at the dive site known as the Inland Sea. She had reportedly been pulled from the waters by other divers, but was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts by medical personnel from Gozo General Hospital to revive her.
There is little information regarding the reasons behind the woman’s death, however, Maltese Magistrate, Simone Grech, is said to be heading an inquiry into the tragedy, which is the subject of a police investigation.
The news marks the second scuba diving fatality in Malta this year, after a 45-year-old Dutch man died near Ċirkewwa while trying to exit the water during strong winds and high seas.
