Shearwater Research has announced a new firmware update for its popular Teric dive computer that will integrate the computer with the new Avelo scuba system.
The Avelo System is a lightweight buoyancy system which uses a pump system to manage a diver’s buoyancy through the use of water as ballast, rather than the conventional, inflatable buoyancy control devices (BCDs)
Avelo’s ‘Hydrotank and Jetpack’ system significantly reduces the amount of weight a diver needs to carry out of the water, while at the same time streamlining their profile underwater. The system is currently on trial at selected dive centres in Bonaire, the US, Spain and Australia and is available to divers following a training course in its use.
The newly developed Avelo Mode on the Teric dive computer is geared specifically towards the Avelo system’s differences in operation as compared to a regular scuba system, generating precise air consumption data when paired with a Shearwater Swift transmitter.
Key features of Avelo Mode include:
- Customizable Personal/Gear/Buoyancy Setup: Tailored settings for optimal diving conditions.
- Gas Time Remaining Display: View gas time remaining as a percentage of your starting pressure for better air management.
- Real-Time Tank Pressure Monitoring: Keep track of tank pressure throughout your dive.
- Buoyancy Status Calculation: Automatically calculate and display your buoyancy status.
- Neutral Buoyancy Reset: Easily reset buoyancy status to neutral during the dive.
- Cloud Support for Profiles: Sync and store dive profiles online for easy access and sharing.
- Dive Shop Integration: Dive shops can send profiles to the Avelo dashboard for training and instructional purposes.
- Enhancing Safety and Performance
Shearwater Research says it is ‘committed to pushing the boundaries of diving technology’ with the latest update. ‘Partnering with Avelo aligns with our mission to deliver powerful, simple, and reliable diving solutions,’ said Jason Leggatt, CEO of Shearwater Research. ‘We are inspired by innovators like Aviad Cahana and his Avelo Labs team, who share our vision to push the boundaries of human potential underwater.’
The Avelo Mode will be available as part of the next firmware release for the Teric dive computer, scheduled for release on June 17, 2024. After installing the new firmware, the Avelo Mode will be available upon purchasing the Avelo Mode Unlock Code, retailing at US$99 from authorised Shearwater dealers.
‘We are ecstatic to collaborate on the Avelo Mode with a renowned dive computer brand like Shearwater,’ said Aviad Cahana, CEO of Avelo Labs. ‘This partnership allows us to bring our revolutionary buoyancy control technology to a broader audience, enhancing the dive experience for all.’
