My thoughts on Scuba Diving
I’ve always found solace in the water. There is a level of peace found there that is
indescribable. I believe it provides refuge from life’s mundanity and allows us a quiet space
to think, release and recover.
I am an aspiring cinematographer, colour grader and DIT with an insatiable passion for
adventure, documentary filmmaking and photography. Scuba diving is the closest I have
felt to myself. To being free. I started my diving journey in April 2021 and will never look
back. Throughout my childhood and thus far, short adult life, I dreamt of travelling (and
documenting) the world, in a quest to understand. To understand culture, language, food,
places, people and to thus lead an organic life. The earth is abundant and yet so little of it
is explored or even understood.
I have learned so much living in and diving the waters of Sodwana Bay with Adventure
Mania Diving Centre. Not only have I come to understand the technical aspects of diving,
but also the many ways in which the ocean contributes to the wellness of our planet.
Marine life has such a profound effect on our ecosystems that I don’t think people fully
realise. I believe that if they just got to see and feel it for themselves, they’d understand
why the ocean and its many inhabitants need protecting.
Through diving, I’ve grown stronger – physically, mentally and emotionally. I have travelled
to many countries and yet nothing compares to the wonder and grandiosity that is the
ocean. My goal now is to explore even deeper. I owe so much of my newfound knowledge
to diving; and greatly appreciate RAID’s continued efforts to teach divers to understand,
respect and honour the waters in which they travel.
