You hear a blast

By Sodwana Bay

But let me tell you something wonderful, a mystery I’ll probably never fully understand. We’re not all going to die— but we are all going to be changed. You hear a blast to end all blasts from a trumpet, and in the time that you look up and blink your eyes—it’s over. On signal from that trumpet from heaven, the dead will be up and out of their graves, beyond the reach of death, never to die again. At the same moment and in the same way, we’ll all be changed. In the resurrection scheme of things, this has to Source: South African LINKYou hear a blast

Irresponsible Worry

By Sodwana Bay

Irresponsible Worry And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?—Matthew 6:27 Something’s coming. Doesn’t it always feel like that? Maybe it’s something financial . . . maybe work-related . . . maybe health-related . . . definitely bad. And so, we worry. I mean, it almost feels like that’s just a part of being a man, worrying about what’s coming. We worry about all the bad things that could happen, to us and to our loved ones. We scheme about how to get out in front of all those things. Then Source: South African LINKIrresponsible Worry

Who Are Your Heroes?

By Sodwana Bay

Who Are Your Heroes? Worship the Lord your God, and only him. Serve him with absolute single-heartedness—Matthew 4:10 We men like heroes. We like to look upward. We start early, as boys, looking up to men and women who do amazing things on grass and turf and hardwood and ice. As we get older, we shift our “looking up” to those who do amazing things in classrooms, board rooms, laboratories, legislatures . . . to those who speak and create and negotiate, to those who research and discover and write. There’s nothing wrong with honoring and admiring other people. Something Source: South African LINKWho Are Your Heroes?

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT—LOVE! “But now abideth Faith, Hope, Love, these three, and the greatest of these is Love.” — 1Co 13:13. LET US lay the emphasis on the word fruit, as contrasted with the works of the law. In work there is effort, strain, the sweat of the brow, and straining of the muscles; but fruit comes easily and naturally by the overflow of the sap rising from the root to bough and bud. So our Christian life should be the exuberance of the heart in which Christ dwells. The Apostle Paul prayed that Christ might dwell in Source: South African LINKLove!

With Friends Like These . . .

By Sodwana Bay

With Friends Like These . . . My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ—James 2:1 We men tend toward partiality. Sometimes with forethought, many times with no thought, we give or withhold based upon characteristics of the potential recipients. We can, therefore, find ourselves directing all our time and attention, our kindness and generosity, toward only those who live, look, sound, spend, sin . . . like we do. This plays out in many areas of life and, therefore, many areas of faith—in service, giving, worship, and certainly in brotherhood. But James, Source: South African LINKWith Friends Like These . . .
