A humpback whale has been filmed capsizing a small boat as it breaches off the coast of New Hampshire, USA.
Two boaters were thrown from the 7m (23ft) vessel close to Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, New Hampshire, when the breaching whale landed on the craft’s stern.
According to a post on X by the US Coast Guard, the two men were uninjured and rescued from the water by fellow boaters, one of whom was Colin Yanger, who filmed the breach.
The US Coastguard crew who responded to the incident reported that the whale appeared not to be injured, and the boat was successfully salvaged.
The incident has been reported to NOAA and the Center of Coastal Studies, which conducts research into the marine mammals, sharks and coastal habitats of the western North Atlantic, and also responds to reports of marine animal entanglements through its dedicated hotline.
